Asheville, NC— City Councilmember Cecil Bothwell will file for re-election to Asheville City Council at 12:00 noon today at the Board of Elections office at 35 Woodfin Street. Supporters will gather as Bothwell files to run for a second term.
Bothwell’s platform emphasizes a greener, more sustainable Asheville; maintaining our schools, community centers and parks; equal rights for all Ashevillians; and more affordable housing. In a second term, these areas will be the focus of Bothwell’s endeavors.
Filing for all Asheville offices begins at noon today, and candidates will have two weeks to file before the period closes. Recently, Rep. Tim Moffitt has suggested changing city elections to a district vote instead of an at-large election and delaying Asheville city elections for a year. With today’s filing, the election process will have begun, making it challenging for the General Assembly to enact such a change.
